There were breakthroughs but what stood out the most was the series of shifts happening in parallel, pointing towards a more considered, technically grounded direction for beauty.
A ‘reset’ mindset is emerging
There’s a noticeable departure from the desire for quick wins in favour of longer-term thinking. Longevity is a unifying theme, not just in skincare but now strongly featuring across hair, body and beyond. The language of repair, resilience and maintenance is replacing more short-term claims, suggesting a more holistic approach to product development.
Biotech is big
Brilliant news for us as champions of biotechnology-led innovation and biomimetic development, we felt this was fully embedded this year. Exosomes in particular were everywhere, spanning categories from skincare and haircare through to fragrance and intimate care. What stood out above their presence was the fact that the technologies are now being communicated really confidently with the science becoming part of the story, rather than sitting behind it.
Cooling as both function and signal
Cooling formats popped up repeatedly, often positioned as both a functional benefit and a sensorial cue. Whether in make-up, skincare, scalp or body applications, that immediate cooling effect is being used to communicate efficacy in a very tangible way. It’s a simple mechanism, but one that clearly resonates.
Clinical, but considered
Perhaps one of the most important trends and one that we explore in our recent Dermocosmetic Trend Report, is the move towards products that are both clinically credible and cosmetically elegant. Historically, those two aspects haven’t always sat comfortably together. Now, there’s a clear expectation that products should deliver measurable results while still offering a sophisticated, sensorially rewarding user experience. Texture, absorption, finish and even temperature are all being used to reinforce both efficacy and desirability. In many cases, it’s these details that elevate a formulation from functional to memorable.
Overall, the direction of travel feels more balanced. Science is being brought forward, but not at the expense of experience. For formulators, that creates an interesting challenge, and a significant opportunity, to deliver products that perform, communicate and feel exceptional in equal measure.
